Rubberising & Spray-On Polyurethane Coating

Protect Your Vehicle. Protect Your Investment.

Your bakkie, truck or trailer works hard, and the surfaces that carry your loads take the most punishment. Scratches, impact, abrasion, moisture and everyday loading can damage the original surface. Once the protective finish is broken, exposed metal can become vulnerable to corrosion and rust. This is particularly important in coastal areas of South Africa, where humid conditions and salt-laden air can contribute to corrosion. That is where professional rubberising comes in.

What Is
Rubberising?

Rubberising, also known as spray-on polyurethane coating or spray-on bed lining, is a protective coating that is professionally sprayed onto a prepared surface.

Once applied, the polyurethane forms a tough, durable and textured protective layer that bonds to the surface underneath.

It creates a barrier between the surface and the harsh conditions it is exposed to, while also helping protect against the everyday damage caused by loading, unloading and transporting equipment and materials.

Unlike a loose rubber mat, the coating is sprayed directly onto the prepared surface, following its contours and creating continuous coverage.

Why Is Rubberising Necessary?

A loadbin is designed to carry loads, but it is not designed to remain undamaged when exposed to constant impact and abrasion.

Tools, building materials, machinery, farming equipment and other cargo can scratch and damage the original surface. Water and moisture can then reach areas where the protective finish has been compromised.

Over time, this can lead to corrosion and rust.

A quality polyurethane coating helps to:

  • Protect against scratches and abrasions
  • Reduce damage from impact and heavy loads
  • Protect against moisture and corrosion
  • Help prevent exposed metal from developing rust
  • Provide a durable surface for constant loading and unloading
  • Improve grip with its textured finish
  • Extend the useful life of the protected surface

Especially Important on the South African Coast

For vehicles operating in coastal areas such as East London and the Eastern Cape, protecting exposed metal is particularly important.

Salt in the coastal environment, combined with moisture and humidity, can create conditions that encourage corrosion. Even small scratches and areas of damaged paint can eventually become problem areas.

Rubberising provides an additional protective barrier where your vehicle needs it most.

Almost 30 Years of Experience

Rubberising You Can Trust

At UltraGuard Automotive Fitment Centre, rubberising isn’t something we have only recently added to our services.

We have been protecting vehicles and surfaces since 1997.

With almost three decades of experience, we have developed the practical knowledge needed to understand different applications, surface preparation requirements and the demands placed on vehicles and equipment in real-world conditions.

We believe that a good rubberising job starts long before the polyurethane is sprayed.

Proper preparation is essential.

Our process is thorough because we don’t believe in rushing a job simply to get the vehicle out the door. The surface needs to be properly cleaned and prepared before the coating is applied.

The result is a professional, durable finish designed to provide long-lasting protection.

How Does Professional Rubberising Work?

Spray-on polyurethane rubberising is a two-component system.

The components must be mixed in a precise, manufacturer-specified ratio immediately before application. Once mixed, a chemical reaction begins and the material cures rapidly to form a tough, durable protective coating.

The surface preparation, mixing ratio, application equipment, spray pressure, temperature and application technique all affect the final result.

Why Is It Not a DIY Job?

Professional rubberising is far more than simply spraying a product onto a loadbin.

Incorrect mixing ratios or poor surface preparation can result in weak adhesion, uneven curing, bubbling, peeling or premature failure.

Specialised equipment and experience are required to apply the coating consistently at the correct thickness and finish.

That’s why professional preparation and application matter.

At UltraGuard, our experienced team has been applying spray-on polyurethane coatings since 1997. That is almost three decades of experience getting the process right.

3mm or 5mm: Choose Your Level of Protection

Different vehicles have different requirements.

That’s why UltraGuard offers 3mm and 5mm polyurethane coating options.

3mm Standard

Ideal for general everyday use and vehicles carrying normal loads, tools and equipment.

5mm Heavy Duty

Recommended for demanding applications where the surface is exposed to heavier impact, sharp materials and abrasive cargo.

This is particularly suitable for construction, agriculture, industrial applications and heavy-duty commercial use.

Our experienced team can advise you on the most suitable thickness for your particular application.

More Than Just
Bakkies

Although rubberising is particularly popular for bakkie loadbins, spray-on polyurethane coating has many other applications.
